Read the following Job Application Letter tips from recruiting expert, Richard McMunn. You also have the option to download 10 brilliant ‘READY-MADE’ Job Application Letters where you only need to simply fill in the blanks!

WHY YOU MUST SUBMIT A JOB APPLICATION LETTER

You are competing against many other applicants when you apply for a job and the hiring manager has to sift through many CVs and resumes.

Over 98% of resumes/CVs are not supported by a job application letter, which is why it is so important to submit one with your application.

Here are three reasons why you must write a job application letter:

REASON #1 It helps you to instantly stand out from the competition.

REASON #2 – If written correctly, a job application letter shows your intent for the position you are applying for. Most job applicants submit the same resume/CV to many different jobs, which is a huge mistake!

REASON #3 – By including a powerful opening statement and by listing the skills, qualities and experience you have for the role, the hiring manager can quickly shortlist YOU for interview.

3 TIPS FOR WRITING A JOB APPLICATION LETTER

TIP 1 – Keep it to just one side of A4.

Your job application letter should be short, positive and punchy. Any longer than one page, and it will not get read. Make the job of the hiring manager easy by sticking to one side of A4.

TIP 2 – Include your email and telephone number within the letter.

Make it easy for the hiring manager to contact you. Include your email address and telephone number (mobile) at the bottom of the job application letter. Furthermore, make sure your voicemail and your email address extension are both professional sounding and looking!

TIP 3 – Carry out a spell check for errors!

This is extremely important! If there are errors within your job application letter, what does it say about you and the standards you set? Run a simple spell check, or better still, get it proofread!

TIP 4 – Send the letter via email and post.

As you and I know, emails can get lost in cyberspace! Therefore, whilst email should still be the first option for submitting a job application letter, we advise you send it by post as a backup. This ensures the hiring manager sees your application twice, hence making it stand out from the competition!

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN A JOB APPLICATION LETTER

#1 – A powerful OPENING STATEMENT that grabs their attention.

#2 – The skills and qualities you have that MATCH the job description.

#3 – WHY you want to work for their company.

#4 – How you will ADD VALUE to their organization.
