 The Duties and Responsibilities of a Tutor


The main responsibilities of a tutor include creating robust lesson plans that meet the needs of the course syllabus or the curriculum. Delivering the lesson plans through competent teaching that caters for all student’s needs.

As a tutor, you will be responsible for the quality assurance process of your own teaching to ensure that itmeets the requirements of the college or the school you are a part of. As a tutor you are responsible for your own Continuous Professional Developmentand you must keep the Curriculum Manager updated as to the progress of your students based on the course syllabus.

The most important skills and qualities needed to be a competent tutor include:

PATIENCE, COMMUNICATION SKILLS and IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR SUBJECT matter. (Patience is needed because you must be calm whilst teaching, provide a reassuring presence and be respectful to both students and other teachers.

– AN ADAPTIVE STYLE OF COMMUNICATION (No two students ever learn the same, and tutors need strong PLANNING AND ORGANISING capabilities to be able to deliver the course curriculum.)
