TIP #1 – Supermarket Team Leader’s need to have an abundance of skills, and these will be assessed during the interview. You should demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, provide outstanding customer service, abide by the values of the supermarket brand you are choosing to work for, take a pride in your appearance and be able to motivate your team to achieve the time-sensitive tasks that form part of the role.

TIP #2 – There is a very high chance you will be asked multiple behavioural and competency-based questions for the Supermarket Team Leader role. When answering questions that start with “Can you give an example of…” and “Explain a situation you were in when you…” we recommend you make good use of the STAR interview technique, which stands for Situation, Task, Action and Result. This will ensure the scenarios you are providing as part of your answers to the situational interview questions will gain the highest marks possible.

TIP #3 – During the interview, make sure you tell the interview panel what you know about the supermarket’s values, and in particular, their customer service charter. You will be able to find these on the website of the supermarket you are hoping to join. We also advise you understand how to deal with customer complaints, as you could be asked questions based on how to deal with this type of situation as a Team Leader.

TIP #4 – Supermarket’s come under fierce competition from many other competing brands; therefore, it is vital you can work as part of a team to provide outstanding customer service and care to those customers who visit the supermarket. Again, we recommend you think of specific examples where you have delivered fantastic service to customers, as this is an area/competency that will be assessed during the Supermarket Team Leader interview.

TIP #5 – At the end of, or during, your Supermarket Team Leader interview, we recommend you ask the following 3 questions as these will demonstrate you care about the role and the performance of their supermarket brand:

QUESTION – What are the plans for the company over the next few years?

QUESTION – Do you have any new products or services coming out this year that your customers will like and enjoy?
