Store Manager Job Description


Store Managers have a large number of responsibilities that are all centred on delivering excellent customer service to all visitors of the store they are responsible for. The key duties and responsibilities of a Store Manager include:

  • Ensuring the store is open for business each day, on time, and to the correct presentable standards.
  • Ensuring there are enough staff on duty each day to run the store and maintain customer service standards;
  • Monitoring all stock levels to ensure the correct levels are available for customers; Welcoming all customers in to the store so they have the best customer experience possible;
  • Ensuring all risk assessments are carried out and safety standards maintained;
  • Conducting staff appraisals and identifying training needs;
  • Managing staff and resolving underperformance and punctuality issues;
  • Facilitating and undertaking staff training;
  • Working hard to consistently drive sales in store to ensure the business meets its financial objectives.

4 TIPS FOR PASSING THE STORE MANAGER INTERVIEW

TIP #1 – Customer service is THE most important aspect of this role. Not only will you be required to deliver outstanding levels of instore customer service yourself, but you will also be responsible or ensuring all staff within your team do the same. Prior to your Store Manager interview, have specific examples of where you have delivered excellent customer service and also resolve customer complaints effectively and effectively.

TIP #2 – During the Store Manager interview, you will be assessed primarily against the job description and the person specification for the role. During your preparation for your interview, make sure you read both documents and have specific situations you have been in previously, where you have carried out the main duties and responsibilities successfully.

TIP #3 – As a Store Manager, you will also be responsible for driving sales. Prior to attending your interview, think carefully about how you would drive sales in-store by using innovative and creative solutions.

TIP #4 – As a Store Manager you will be responsible for managing staff – on that basis, the hiring manager will want to be reassured you have the appropriate levels of confidence and resilience to deal with difficult staff when needed. If you have prior experience of managing staff, draw upon your managerial experiences to show the interview panel you are a strong manager and leader.
