Q1. Why do you want to be an NHS Mental Health Practitioner and what can you bring to the role?

SUGGESTED ANSWER:

“I want to be an NHS Mental Health Practitioner because I get immense satisfaction from taking care of people, especially those who are vulnerable. Some of the skills and qualities required to become a competent Mental Health Practitioner include an ability to identify the needs of a client, be able to remain calm and act with confidentiality and integrity at all times, make difficult and challenging decisions, abide by the NHS values and also improve the lives of those who are in your care. Those skills and attributes are the ones I believe I possess, and I feel I can contribute positively within this role. Having also studied the NHS organisation, I believe your values and care standards are in line with the type of organisation I would like to work for.”

SUGGESTED ANSWER

“There are specifically 5 things that interest me in mental health. The ability to have a POSITIVE IMPACT on patient’s and client’s lives. This is particularly attractive to me because you get to see the results of your work on a daily basis. Secondly, I the CHALLENGE that the role presents, is something I would thrive on. Working in mental health is not easy, and it is important you take on the challenge in a responsible and professional manner. Thirdly, the fact that MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS is more prominent and positive than ever before, makes me view the role in a more positive light, simply because the government and influential individuals are starting to take notice and help the NHS to achieve its goals. Next, the fact that you have to CONTINUALLY LEARN AND DEVELOP in this role interests me. I am someone who wants to continually improve and develop, and this role certainly has that requirement. Finally, the TEAM APPROACH to mental health is something that is very attractive to me. Whilst I am comfortable working alone, the fact you have to work collaboratively with other NHS team members and external stakeholder is something I would find appealing.”
