Safeguarding was highlighted as part of the 2014 Care Act and it is in relation to the protection of a client’s health, wellbeing and human rights, whilst also keeping them safe from harm, abuse and neglect. Clients who receive care are, more often than not vulnerable, and protecting them through a robust framework is absolutely imperative.”

“First and foremost, as a Healthcare Assistant, you have to understand that when a client needs help with their activities and general daily living, it can be a very difficult transition for them. On that basis, you need to act with empathy, understanding and patience. A calm and reassuring demeanour is absolutely vital in putting a client at ease. You also have to ensure you can work safely, effectively, follow rules and procedures and also conduct the correct risk assessment at all times. I would also liaise with co-workers, other support workers and the client’s friends and family to find out as much information as possible about them, in order to find ways of making the transition more comfortable for them.”

Medical Assistant Job Description and Duties


Medical Assistants form an essential part of the successful operation of a medical team and they require a unique set of skills and qualities in order to provide the right levels of patient care and treatment. Medical Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Providing accurate patient information, assistance and advice;
  • Keeping and maintaining accurate patient records both before, during and after care/treatment;
  • Liaising with doctors, nurses and other medical staff to affect the smooth functioning of the medical department or ward;
  • Preparing patients for treatment and examination by conducting preliminary checks and assessments;
  • Undertaking general medical administrative duties so as to ensure the doctors and senior medical staff are free to carry out their duties;
  • Undertaking your own professional development and training to ensure you can perform your duties as a Medical Assistant diligently and professionally;
  • Maintaining confidentiality at all times;
  • Following strict codes of conducts, operational medical policies and rules and procedures whilst carrying out your duties;
    Maintaining medical supplies by conducting thorough stock checks on a regular basis;
  • Arranging surgery procedures for patients and providing information as and when requested.
  • Serve and protect the public by ensuring all tasks are carried out with the best interest of the patient at all times.
