“There are seven different styles of management. These are autocratic, pacesetting, democratic, transformational, coaching, affiliative, and laissez-faire. Autocratic is the most commanding whilst laissez-faire is the most laid back. I think I would be a mixture of autocratic, coaching, and transformational. There would be times where I would need to be autocratic, especially if we were experiencing difficult challenges and we had a very tight deadline to meet. I would use a coaching style of management when conducting performance reviews or when I needed to motivate my team. Finally, I would always use a transformational style of management because I believe we would need to embrace change continuously if we were going to successfully meet the organizational strategic objectives.”

The interview panel is assessing your ‘potential’ to become a manager within their organization. Therefore, it is important you think of situations you have previously been in where you demonstrated leadership potential, and where you used your initiative to solve problems.
