“I have dealt with many situations like this one before and I always follow a 3-step plan for ascertaining the issue. Firstly, I will ask a series of questions to see if the issue can be resolved quickly and easily. When it comes to helping with slow network speeds, I’d start by asking the user a series of troubleshooting questions to figure out the most effective way to fix it. Secondly, I would start working through the most common causes of this type of issue, until I found the problem. Usual causes for a slow network speed can be a speed mismatch, old and outdated equipment, malware, inadequate and incompatible cable choice, junk software downloaded from the internet to save costs, and also misuse of data packages and applications. It can also sometimes be the fact that people don’t clean up their computer hard drive, which can cause issues and result in slow network speeds. Finally, once I had found the exact issue, I would resolve it and then try to educate the user to explain what the issue has been and the causes of it. This will then prevent the problem from reoccurring and using up invaluable IT staff time and resources.”
