Human Resources (HR) Assistant Job Description, Qualities And Attributes


As a Human Resources (HR) Assistant you will need to carry out daily tasks that include:

  • Creating, updating and maintaining employment contracts;
  • Creating job adverts and job descriptions for internal roles;
  • Shortlisting candidates for internal roles within the organization, creating interview questions and scoring sheets to be used during interviews;
  • Conducting interviews with job applicants alongside senior managers and company directors;
  • Ensuring employment law is adhered to and followed by all staff managing people;
  • Conducting training for internal staff on GDPR best practices and also keeping all staff updated on changes to employment.

Some of the skills, competencies and attributes that will need to be demonstrated by all staff attending HR Assistant interviews include great attention to detail, problem solving, resolution skills for dealing with internal company disputes, communication skills, team-working abilities, knowledge of diversity, quality and integrity and also an openness to change. You will also need to be able to keep yourself updated with new employment law and changes within the industry.

5 TIPS FOR PASSING THE HR ASSISTANT INTERVIEW!

TIP #1 – Before you attend the HR Assistant interview, have a thorough understanding of the type of law and regulations you will be required to adhere to within your role. These include employment law, GDPR regulations, Age Discrimination Act, Equality of Pay, Working Time Directive, Data Protection, Maternity and Parental Rights, Sex Discrimination, Age Discrimination etc.

TIP #2 – Demonstrating attention to detail is very important if you are to become a HR Assistant. Therefore, prior to attending the interview, think of situations you have been in where you have demonstrated meticulous attention to detail in a previous role. As you can imagine, there can be no room for error in relation to the creation of employment contracts and the information you send within letters, write in documents and also company emails.
