Food and Beverage Roles Job Description, Skills and Qualities


Whilst there are numerous job roles within the food and beverage industry, the core requirements of the role remain the same. You are required to provide a warm and friendly welcome to all visitors and guests to the establishment ensuring that exceptional customer service is provided at all times. You will need to have excellent personal presentation skills, be able to respond to customer queries in a timely manner, and also be knowledgeable of all food and beverage products available on the menu. You will normally report to the Food and Beverage Manager or Supervisor.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create a warm and positive environment for all guests;
  • Ensure you are familiar with the menu and in particular the drinks and food that are available during your shift;
  • Able to take orders accurately in written format to minimize ordering errors and omissions;
  • Follow all food safety hygiene standards;
  • Respond positively to any customer complaints in an effective manner by following company complains procedures;
  • Deliver outstanding customer service at all times;
  • Work as part of a team and be a supportive member of the food and beverage crew;
  • Set up, clean and prepare tables for guests as soon as a guest leaves the restaurant or dining area;
  • Handle cash and cheque payments accurately;
  • Any other duties as required by the Food and Beverage Manager or Supervisor.
