Bank Teller Job Description and Key Responsibilities


As a Bank Teller, you will be the first point of contact for people who enter the bank. On that basis, it is vital you are capable of acting as a positive role model for the bank at all times whilst providing exceptional customer service and care. In addition to the core Bank Teller responsibilities detailed below, you will need to utilize great attention to detail skills, concentrate for long periods of times, maintain customer and client confidentiality and also handle cash in line with the bank’s core operating procedures and policies.

Bank Teller Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of contact for the majority of customers who enter the bank;
  • Respond to customer queries in relation to their bank account and financial affairs;
  • Handle cash deposits, cheques, withdrawals and also provide accurate bank account statements upon requests;
  • Provide account services to customers when required and also provide advice in respect of loan or overdraft applications;
  • Sell cashier checks and traveler’s checks when required;
  • Maintain accurate bank records by logging details of each transaction;
  • Complete special customer requests such as closing down bank accounts, submitting completed loan applications, completing safe-deposit box transactions and also arranging the exchange of foreign cash and check transactions;
  • Upsell bank products and services as and when suitable opportunities arise;
  • Respond to customer queries and questions both face-to-face and via telephone and also refer people to the relevant bank departments as necessary;
  • Serve customers and bank clients in a fast, efficient and timely manner whilst upholding the bank’s customer service code of conduct or charter;
  • Deal with customer complaints in line with the bank’s complaints procedure;
