Accounting Job Brief:

Accounting roles play a vital part in the successful running of any business or organization. Whether it’s a small, local independent shop, or a very large blue-chip organization, the accounting work needs to be accurate, timely and in line with current financial regulations. Therefore, in order to work within an accounting role you will need a unique set of skills, including an ability to work as part of a team, be able to provide outstanding client care, be capable of providing the right type of client advice, work long and arduous hours and also work to strict timescales whilst under pressure. You will also need the ability to learn new and updated accounting software packages and develop your own skills to stay on top of the financial industry.

Accounting Interview Assessable Skills, Qualities & Attributes:

• ATTENTION TO DETAIL – All accounting roles require a unique ability to keep any mistakes or errors to an absolute minimum. At the interview you will be assessed against ‘attention to detail’ skills. If you have previous experience of working in a role where attention to detail was vital, talk about this during your answers to the questions posed.
• CLIENT-CENTRED FOCUS – The client is the most important person within accounting roles. You will need to provide proof of how you can meet the needs of the client during your accounting interview.
• WORKING TO STRICT TIMESCALES AND DEADLINES – As you are fully aware, working within accounting roles require you to meet strict deadlines and timescales. If you miss these, the penalties can be severe. Show the interview panel you fully understand how important this competency is during your interview.
• OPEN TO CHANGE & CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The accounting firm must keep abreast of changes within the financial sector and report these to the client, and in particular, how these changes will impact on their business. Continuous professional development will be your responsibility and you need to have a plan in place of how you intend to keep abreast of the constant changes and developments within the industry.
