London Underground Train Driver Job Description 

London Underground Train Driver Job Brief:

London Underground Train Drivers perform a highly safety-critical role and are required to operate under strict operational guidelines and safety procedures. You will need a diverse set of skills if you are to drive the trains on the London Underground, and these include being able to follow strict rules and procedures, deliver excellent customer service, communicate messages to your passengers, liaise with signallers and other members of the London Underground Operational Team (LUOT) and also remain calm in emergency and pressurised situations. In addition to these attributes, you will need to be able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time on the same task, pass numerous tests and also be flexible in your role, being available to drive the trains during weekends, evenings and unsociable hours.

London Underground Train Driver Interview Competencies, Skills, Qualities & Attributes:

• SAFETY-CRITICAL ROLE – Above all else, London Underground Train Drivers must be able to operate under strict safety procedures and rules at all times. You are responsible for the safety of yourself, the safety of your passengers, the rolling stock (train) and also other members of staff.
• CUSTOMER SERVICE – Customer service capabilities will be assessed during the London Underground Train Driver interview. You will need to provide evidence-based answers to questions relating to your ability to provide exceptional customer service at all times. This includes driving the trains in a safe and comfortable manner, pulling into underground station platform’s safely and in line with your training, providing timely messages over the train’s intercom system and also informing passengers of any delays to the underground service.
• FLEXIBILITY – London Underground Train Drivers have to be flexible in their role. Being a Train Driver on the London Underground is not a normal 9-5 job and you will be required to show you are committed to working unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends.
• COMMUNICATION SKILLS – London Underground Train Drivers have to communicate messages to passengers. In addition to this, they have to communicate with the Underground Rail Safety Control Centre (URSCC) and also with the Signalling team. You will also need to communicate promptly and clearly any issues that arise whilst driving the train under your control.
• WORKING UNDER PRESSURE – London Underground Train Drivers have to work under pressure at all times. This requires an innate ability to remain calm and follow strict rules and procedures. During the London Underground TFL train driver interview, you should provide evidence of where you have followed rules and procedures and also remained calm during either a difficult or emergency situation.
